Mark Algar was born in the Yukon Territories and grew up in Ontario. His interests in art began at a young age and continued in the background throughout his art career.
Mark’s work took him to New Zealand, for two years, then multiple moves to the United States and four years in Paris, France. He received strong inspiration from the art museums, cityscapes, and landscapes in Paris, rural France, and from his travels throughout Europe, India, China, and Brazil.
Mark’s oil paintings illustrate his life stories and show his love of the distinct colours from around the world. He tells stories using skillful composition and almost always portrays people in his works.
Mark retired from his first career in 2017. Development as an artist continued through courses at the Scottsdale Artists’ School and membership in the Scottsdale Artists League. His art coaches were oil painters Becky Parks of Dallas, Texas, Susan Diehl of Pheonix, Arizona, and Georgia Amar during a stimulating week in Brighton, Ontario. In early 2020, Mark settled back in Ontario, Canada. He regularly paints, including commissions, and writes short stories of his life using some of his paintings to illuminate the text.
